"Healthcare" reform

On this March 21, 2010, the votes have been cast by our elected 'representatives'. The passing of the 2000+ page Health Care and Education Reform Act of 2010 is definitely historic. It's extremely unlikely that anyone knows everything contained in the bill. Over 2000 pages? Seriously? Our country was founded with a few rather simple, but very powerful documents. Documents that have been the foundation of this country for over 200 years. In the past 24+ months, the party in power (the Democrats) have all but ignored these founding documents.

The ploy of deploying printers

I recently completed a migration of Windows SBS2k3 to SBS2k8. In doing so, most of the process (while tedious) went smoothly. Who would have thought that printer deployment would be the big issue! Based on my experiences, I've come to the conclusion that the print manager in Windows 2008 is stupid at best. Let me explain:

Yost has to go!

Is anyone besides me surprised that Ned Yost has not yet been replaced? After the great start in '07, only to finish with a lack-luster end, I was willing to give Ned the benefit of the doubt for another year. As a manager of a young team, you will have ups and downs. However, after last season, the expectations were raised. This team has a great group of talent. What appears to be missing is a lack of focus and leadership.

New Ride

So I finally broke down and decided 220k miles was enough on the blazer. I bought that new in 97 so it's treated me well with only routine maintenance (and a few expected wear and tear type repairs). Hopefully I'll have the same experience with the new ride, my 2008 Equinox.

"A few inches"

Winter storm "Grace" graced us with some lovely snow which I found after returning from Manitowoc today. We stayed in Manitowoc last night after my grandpa's wake because the people who predict these things claimed that it would snow. Well, they actually knew what they were talking about this time (for a change). We ended up with around 6 inches by Wed morning, and just around 11 inches by the time I got back here. (see the attached pictures). About half way down, they announced on the radio that I-43 was "impassable" in Sheboygan County.

Dude, it's a Dell

Ok so I bought a new Dell D830 laptop with the full intention of running it primarily as a Linux pc with Windows in a virtual machine. Early searching showed that most of the components would work out of the box as long as I was using a new version of Linux. So far, I've had two issues. First, the installer DVD for Fedora doesn't load the ide-cd driver so the DVD drive can't be used for the entire install. Not a big deal. I used a boot cd, chose the network install and installed from a different pc on my network.

Holiday Smoliday! It's Merry Christmas for a reason

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Why I support Mike Huckabee

We're now about a year away from electing another President. The democrats are down to two potential candidates, both of which I believe would speed the demise of the United States of America as we once knew it. We, as a country, are in danger of losing our identity and failing the promise of those who risked their lives to found this once great nation. We can regain our greatness (and I don't mean military supremacy), but it will take a ground roots effort and time. We are a country founded on religious freedom, not freedom FROM religion. So many people are afraid to say that.

BarCampMilwaukee2

BarCampMilwaukee2 is less than a month away (Saturday October 13th, 2007 through Sunday October 14th, 2007). The group has a goal of at least 200 people (as of today 81 are registered). I was part of the group that participated in the event last year which was held at Bucketworks (in Milwaukee). Bucketworks has since relocated and is not quite ready to start hosting events at their new location. As a result, the group has worked out some arrangements in Shlitz Park.

Hot fingers and hotter salsa

So I just finished up another batch of my world famous salsa. (Ok so maybe not world famous, but it's damn good alright?) It's been about 3 years since I last made salsa and of course there are some things that I keep forgetting.

1). Pick up some damn gloves so you protect your fingers from the hot peppers.

2). If you fail to follow #1, for God's sake be extra careful when using the bathroom.

3). Don't rub your eyes! (for like the next 2 days)
